Summer Rain

I’ve always enjoyed songs about rain. I figured with the last couple of weeks been an onslaught here much more so than any June in recent memory – this is supposed to be considered “High Desert”. I have posted a few of my older favorites in this category, but it has been a few years back. Today (turns out it might be a sunny one after all) I thought I might post a few from more recent memory. The pic I took a couple evenings ago when it was raining – yet again. I don’t want people to think I haven’t been enjoying the rain, because there’s not much better than summer rain, especially in the desert, but it has been a bit cooler than usual for this time of year. I do enjoy the weather and the cool weather, the wind and the rain. I’m not so much complaining as basking in the wonderful precipitation.

Happy Easter

This is always a great time of year (at least in the Northern Hempisphere) when the snow starts melting, the sun starts shining a bit more often and the days get longer. If you celebrate Easter or Passover or Pagan spring fertility rituals, or a combined effort of the three, it’s just nice to be outside and feel the warmth permeating everything once again. Growing up in Arizona, one starts to miss that warmth more and more throughout the bleak post-Christmas months of late winter. I snapped that shot up in Salt Lake City a couple weeks ago, and I love the overlooking of the spires. Hope you had fun with young children and way too much sugar in their system delivered by a bunny that breaks in and leaves treats in baskets. I got my chocolate in a hat a few times as a kid and thought that was way cooler than a wicker basket. Here is Johnny Horton’s first #1 hit and Cash’s cover which he dedicated to Horton after he died in a Head-On collision at 35.

Spring?

I just had a print made of this pic I took a year ago in Logan, or I should say outside of Logan, up the canyon by Hyde Park. I quite like the picture and I enjoy it on the wall. It was probably summer in most of the Northern Hemisphere, but that Saturday it decided to snow. As Easter approaches and thoughts turn to spring and nice warm weather, I always think we’re gonna get another big storm. This morning when I woke up it just felt that we have a couple more to go. Well let’s not dwell on that, shall we? Here are some of my favorite sunny songs to brighten up the day.

Fall Leaves

Ok, so I don’t have any cute kids to take pics of to attract traffic to the blog, so I have to make do. A couple of weekends ago while hunting up above heber I took a couple of pics of the fall leaves, which looked especially nice (I thought) mixed in with the Spruce of the area. These pictures were taken just before it started dumping snow on top of us pushing us down out of the mountains. It has turned chilly here, and probably will be for quite some time. It’s looking like these pics of the high valleys down low even here.

Manti

I was just driving by the temple, one of the very few highlights to driving to work in Manti every day, and the fall colors were beautiful and the lights on the temple were lit with the sun just setting. I would have snapped a few pics to share, but my camera is acting up. I forgot I took a few of these the other day and I figured I’d share one. It was a beautiful bright Sunday when we took these a few weeks ago and I especially like this one.

I took this picture a couple weekends ago, I thought it was a pretty cool little Sinclair station that I pass when I go the back way to my parents house on the west side of Utah Lake, i think it is in Genola. Anyway, I thought I’d share. (Actually it’s Elberta)

Keep Fishing

Here are a few of the pictures from this weekend, they were ones I took, so I’m not in them, I’m sure there will be no complaints there. I don’t know why Ben and John are so happy with those little fish. Just wanted to get these up today, it was a fun trip thanks to John driving and Dad paying for the cabins. These sort of trips are too few and far between.

BYU Football pics

I was at the BYU game this weekend and I took some pictures and I thought I’d share with anyone who cared to see them. You can click on any of them for a larger view.
It was a fun game, but the second half was quite boring. At the end of the first half it was BYU 40, SDSU 3. The final was 47 to 17.
