Alchemy

I read the book the Alchemist last night on a recommendation from John B. I have to say that I really enjoyed it. It was a very well written book with meaning beyond most books that you read these days. The author is Brazilian and the story is of a Spanish shepherd who is finding his path in life. He meets the king of Salem, who gives him a Urim and Thummim to help him on his path that leads to the Pyramids of Egypt. The story is analagous of every mans journey for his ‘Personal Legend’ or purpose in life. It was a wonderful tale of how we get lost in the everyday and need to focus on our goal(s) in life. I would highly recommend this book, especially for those of you involved with book groups. This is a book to discuss and remember the reasons you do the things you do and what things are really worth the journey.

  1. Hey, that is so cool. I don’t even remember recommending it to you but glad you read it. I have to say I was annoyed with it at first but the more I thought about the meaning of things and what the author was trying to get across I liked it more and more. In fact, I was thinking about part of it just last night. I’ll have to let Todd know since he was the one that recommended it to me (and bought it as well)

  2. You didn’t neccessarily recommend it, but you were telling me about it and it sounded interesting to me, so I picked it up.

  3. Great review. This is one of my all-time favorite books. I love the story telling style of the author. And, although it is simple to read, it’s message is profound. I’ve read it multiple times and each time is just as inspiring.
