Tuesday they came out with a new Director’s cut of The Natural. I loved this movie growing up, it’s a great story of coming back and making your dreams come true despite what life has thrown at you, or the mistakes you’ve made. This new version is even better, the old one always was a bit choppy and uneven, the new one is smooth and works much better. Most of the flashbacks are actually at the beginning of the movie and gives the rest of the movie more room to breathe and keep the emotions going, without having to go back and explain things every so often. One of the best parts of this movie is the wonderful score by Randy Newman, yes that Randy Newman. The guy can do it all, pop songs, kid movies (the Toy Story’s, James and the Giant Peach, Babe, Monster’s Inc.) and heartfelt scores (the Natural, Awakenings, Pleasantville and Seabiscuit). Here are some of my highlights from the long prolific career.
